First Impressions! A Red Front Door!

Thinking of selling your home?  If so, you may want to look at it from the viewpoint of a potential buyer.

Curb Appeal. That famous real estate phrase is worth considering when you plan to sell your home! In addition to a manicured lawn, tidy garden, swept walkway and a clean garage door, be sure to take a good look at the front entrance to your home.

Did you know that red doors actually have a long historical and cultural significance? In early American tradition, a red door signified to weary travelers that the home was a welcoming sanctuary. During the Civil War, abolitionists who were part of the Underground Railroad painted their doors red, indicating that their homes were places of refuge for African-American slaves as they journeyed north into free States and Canada.

Scottish homeowners painted their front doors red to indicate that they were mortgage free! The Chinese consider red to be a lucky colour and many put a fresh coat of red paint on their front doors as part of their New Year celebration.

The principles of Feng Shui suggest that bold colours invite positive energy and the colour red, in particular, invites good luck, prosperity, happiness and abundance.

Benjamin Moore recently named “Caliente” as its colour of the year for 2018. It is a vibrant, charismatic shade of red that is sure to make your front door stand out in the most positive way!
