Settlers arrived in 1793 but it was not until 1851 that the County was formed. It is now a single tier municipality which amalgamated in 1999 with several vibrant and quaint communities including Paris, St. George, Burford, Scotland and many others. It is predominantly a rural municipality bordered by Waterloo, Hamilton and the Counties of Haldimand, Norfolk and Oxford. Although Brantford is located within the County, it is a fully independent city with its own government.
Heritage homes grace these communities. As Brant continues to grow, so does its infrastructure and new home developments offering detached and town homes as well as condo apartments. Homes listed for sale in Brant average just 27 days on the market, with an average selling price of $430,333.
The ‘prettiest little town in Canada’ according to Harrowsmith Magazine, is Paris, Brant’s largest urban centre. Against a fairytale backdrop of the Grand and Nith Rivers, this heartwarming town is lined with open-air cafes, bakeries, cheese shops, boutiques and acclaimed restaurants. Paris is best known for its cobblestone buildings including 2 churches and 10 residences that are all still in use today.
Brant has 47 parks, community centres and trail systems stretching over 70 kilometers. The Grand River is so steeped in history that it has been designated a Canadian Heritage River. Area outfitters offer a wide range of paddling experiences that educate visitors about this storied river and the County.
St. George is blessed with apple blossoms in the spring and a fresh crop of apples in the fall. Its Applefest is one of the top 100 festivals in Ontario, highlighting apples, pies, crafts, artisans, vendors, live entertainment, kids’ activities and much more!
The Brant County Board of Education was amalgamated with the Norfolk and Haldimand County Boards of Education in the late 1990’s to create the Grand Erie School District Board.
Rich in culture and adventurous in nature, the County of Brant would be ideal to raise a family in!
