[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Oakville continues to enjoy its status as the ‘best place to live in Canada’ (MoneySense Magazine, July 2018). In the same issue it was also recognized as the 5th best city in our country to raise a family! This accolade is due in part to Oakville’s amazing community spirit when it comes to celebrating holidays, seasons, festivals etc.

The Oakville Historical Society offers evening ‘Ghost Walks’ until October 30th. Step back in time to Olde Oakville, circa 1800. Characters from the past assume the role of tour guide and instill a dash of eeriness into this family friendly event which also includes interactions with colourful ghosts along the way.

Canada’s original night trail run, ‘Trek or Treat’, is a hauntingly good time! On October 26th participants don their Hallowe’en costumes and headlamps and embark on a spooky 5-kilometre run through Oakville’s darkened trails. The family friendly version is the Creepy Mile, lit up by giant Hallowe’en inflatables, featuring a mid-way candy station. The evening concludes at St. Volodymyr’s with pizza and hot chocolate.

Many Oakville homeowners embrace the spirit of Hallowe’en with extensive, over-the-top decorating of their properties! For the past 23 years, the owners of 111 Solingate Drive have created a ghoulish and spooky display of ghosts, goblins and witches to delight the passersby who come out in droves to experience it firsthand. Donations are accepted for the Oakville Foodshare Program.

In the Towne Square, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. this Saturday, children are invited to decorate mini pumpkins and go on a horse drawn hay wagon ride through downtown Oakville.

Downtown Burlington businesses host ‘Treats in our Streets’ on October 27th for costumed trick-or-treaters plus there is a bouncy castle, entertainment and fun for the whole family! Mapleview Mall combines retail therapy with the spookiest time of year with an October 30th Hallowe’en event! Iconic restaurant, Emma’s Back Porch, is the starting point of a Burlington Ghost Walk happening nightly until October 30th.

Mountsberg Conservation Area is holding their ‘Creatures of the Night Pajama Night’ this Saturday. The family fun includes a hike in the dark, pumpkin carving, a haunted play barn and campfire smores!

The ‘Great Pumpkin Trail’ at the Royal Botanical Gardens is a mystical experience. Hundreds of lit pumpkins light your way through Hendrie Park and the South Bridle Trail, interspersed by various live performances and pumpkin-themed activities. Tickets are required for this event taking place on October 25th and 26th.

Still in need of a Jack-O-Lantern? Springridge Farm is holding their Harvest Festival until October 28th. Find the perfect pumpkin and experience the petting zoo and ‘boo’ barn.
